Putting people first, especially your family, seems like a natural instinct. I'll be the first to admit that I often forget to take care of myself and although I know I'm important, how often do I really remember it? You only get one life and while you may feel like your spouse and your children are the most important thing in your life (which they are in mine), you have to put yourself first every once in a while. Splurge on a new outfit, get your nails done, learn a language, browse the book store for an hour or three...whatever it is that makes you happy and makes you feel your importance, do it.
I recently took my own pondering advice and turned it into something real. I grew up in the Catholic church and never liked it, I dreaded going in fact, so it has literally been years since I have immersed myself in religion. I recently joined my local MOPs group and started attending their Christian church and I absolutely love it. While I'm still trying to "get my feet wet" in terms of wholeheartedly accepting myself back in a religious setting, I am genuinely enjoying the services and the families that I am meeting. I also decided that it was time to learn Spanish, and I downloaded the Duolingo app to help myself do that. If you want to learn a language, I highly recommend it. I've also found since having children that I have a really hard time spending money on myself. I always feel like the money should be going toward a bill, or the kids, so when it comes down to it, I wear holes into my shirt and wear my old navy flip flops until I'm practically walking on the ground barefoot. Today, I bought two shirts for myself! I also recently got addicted to Jamberry but that's another story in itself.
So I want to know. Do you know the importance of you? What was the last thing you did for you, and how did it make you feel?
