Sewing Mommy Superhero Cape Onesie Review & Giveaway

When I found out that I was having a little boy, and not a little girl, I will admit there was about a thirty second disappointment realizing that I wouldn't be buying the hair bows and the tutu's, but I quickly realized that having a little boy was the greatest blessing I could have asked for. Little boys get dirty, they love cars, trains, superhero's, and lets face it, what's better than a superhero? Oh! I know, I know! The one thing better than an actual superhero is dressing your son up as a superhero! Unfortunately these days, all of the costumes (both for halloween or make believe) are made so cheaply out of itchy uncomfortable materials, that it's not even fun for your little boy to wear them. Well guys, I have a solution for you.....dun da da dun, Sewing Mommy to the rescue!

*I received a complimentary superhero onesie for review in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions*

Sewing Mommy Diana Ross is the mother of two little boys and lives in New York. She starting sewing when she was 16, inspired by her grandmother who passed away. Her grandmother had taught her the basics about sewing, but Diana mostly learned through pushing herself to keep at it and through trial and error. She started her Etsy Shop, Sewing Mommy, as a means to help provide for her family after she became a stay at home mom, and she is grateful to have a wonderful husband who doesn't mind her sewing projects all over their house! Sewing Mommy makes everything from fun superhero outfits, iPhone/iPad accessories, wraps, nursing covers, key fobs, and more.

Sewing Mommy generously let me choose what I wanted to review and I was so excited when I saw her superhero outfits!! She offers various styles of super hero outfits from basic capes for your bigger kid, to infant/toddler onesies with sewn on capes! I know my son well enough to know that there was absolutely no way he'd just wear a cape and keep it on, so I thought it was wise to choose one of their toddler onesies to review for you today! I had a really hard time deciding which superhero cape onesie to get, but I finally made my decision to go with the Batman inspired cape onesie in a size 24 months. When the onesie arrived I had completely forgotten that it included a mask and I was very excited to have found it in the package! I knew Baby A wouldn't wear it, or at least for very long, but it completed the look so I wanted to see him wear it at least once. Sewing Mommy does not make the onesies, but she uses Carter's brand onesies so they are high quality and are pretty accurately true to size.

What I love about the cape onesie the most is that the cape is sewn directly onto the back collar of the onesie, making it impossible for your little one to pull the cape off. The cape is only sewn onto the collar which leaves it free flowing and tons of fun to watch when your little one takes off running.

The Batman emblem is handmade from a thick felt and securely adhered to the cape. The cape itself is made form a silk like material making it soft and comfortable to wear. Baby A couldn't stop touching the ends of the cape that he could reach, he's not use to silky material and he clearly loved it!

So as you may know, getting a toddler to stay still while you're trying to take pictures is nearly impossible, so I apologize in advance that some of the pictures you're about to see are slightly blurred..

Baby A is now 19 months old and wears 18 month clothing (some 24 month depending on the brand), but I requested a size 24 month from the Sewing Mommy for two reasons. 1) you never really know how the onesie will run in terms of size and 2) the bigger the onesie the longer he can wear it! The 24 month onesie fit Baby A great, it was a little roomy but I loved it because the way the bottom of the onesie is cut it gives it more of a square appearance and made Baby A look like he had a little romper on instead of just a onesie. He was super comfortable and ran around the entire afternoon with his superhero cape onesie on!

Baby A looked ridiculously adorable in his superhero cape onesie and had a ton of fun running around in it. He kept touching the sides of the cape because it was silky and soft. He played, read books, and even ate a snack while he was Batman. It was a lot of fun to watch him in it and we even got Nana on FaceTime to watch and she was loving it!

Now you may be wondering about the mask. Well, the mask was a disaster. Typically I don't post pictures of Baby A's face but the picture below was to good not to. I put the mask on him and he had an absolute melt down. It was like I had cut up his cuddle blanket and threw it in the trash can in front of him, he FREAKED OUT. But I imagine that that's most kids for ya. Baby A hates hats and sunglasses too, so I knew it was coming. Regardless of Baby A's reaction, superhero mask is well made and comfortable for your little one to wear. It has a thin elastic band that will fit comfortable around a little noggin and those of you with not so picky little boys probably won't be able to get the mask off of them!

yeah...that really happened.

Sewing Mommy is an awesome Etsy shop that will provide your child with something special and unique to play make believe in! They have tons of superhero capes available to choose from for your little guy or gal! Whether it's for a costume party, halloween, or just make believe, do yourself a favor and pick up one of Sewing Mommy's Superhero Capes and know that you're receiving a quality superhero outfit instead of a store bought cheapy.

  6. I love the Nursing covers! These really are ingenious. I'm not a mommy yet, but I've seen women breast feeding & seen others starring at woman who are. I've always been set on breast feeding my kids & yet been afraid I wouldn't be able to do it unless I'm home because I didn't want it to be awkward. I also don't want to share my breasts with the world. This product really solves that social awkwardness issue! No fear of anything being seen & as an extra plus, it looks comfortable, allowing you to relax instead of fidgeting or trying to keep covered up. In turn, this makes it less stressful for the baby too!
