MCO Beauty Week: Skin Care

Hey guys, sorry for the late post! I haven't been feeling well since yesterday but now Baby A is down for the night and I can write out a little blurb about Skincare! I am apologizing in advance for the lack of photos, I wasn't about to take a pic of myself looking all frumpy!

Caring for your skin is one of the most important things that you NEED to do for yourself. The most important thing to do is wear an SPF moisturizer on your face during the day to not only keep your skin moist but also to protect against the sun. I'm sure that sounds pretty basic right? Funny thing is, I don't even obey my own rules. I would say that I have pretty normal skin and I feel as though I can diagnose my skin type based on the fact that for two years, 5-6 days a week, 6-8 hours a day, I was surrounded by skin care professionals while I worked at the spa. I was lectured repeatedly by aestheticians telling me that I needed to start a skin care regimen while I was young and my skin was still healthy, but truth be told, I feel like my skin is healthier when I do NOTHING to it. That's right, I said nothing.

I've used face wash, scrubs, moisturizers, nighttime moisturizer, eye creams, basically the whole nine, and when I was using product on my face I would break out, have oily skin, irritation... It just didn't work for me. At all. And I know that a lot of you are probably cringing right now at the fact that I don't use anything on my face but it just isn't what my skin needs!

Prior to my shower I always take my makeup off using a homemade makeup remover that I came across using Pinterest when I got sick of buying makeup remover towels, having baby wipes not work and just make my eyes irritated and red, and having baby oil be way to oily. This stuff works like a charm. Seriously, it's amazing, and if you're a parent the chances that you already have everything are pretty high. To make your own makeup remover you will need a small container (I use a baby food jar -Gerber sized-), baby oil, tear free baby shampoo, and water. Now I have been reading a lot that you shouldn't use baby oil on your skin at all, but seriously, the Internet turns a common cold into cancer so I find that hard to believe. But if you're worried about using Baby Oil you can substitute it with Olive Oil, a natural Mineral Oil, and even a liquid-y Coconut Oil.

What You Will Need:

-A Quarter Sized Droplet of Tear Free Baby Shampoo
-5-10 Drops (depending on how oily you like your remover, I do about 6) of Oil -Baby, Mineral, Olive, or Coconut
-As much Water as Will Fill The Container

What You Need To Do:

Combine baby shampoo, oil, and water in your small container or jar. Pt the lid on. SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE! You will want to shake the container prior to use every time. Use a cotton ball or a soft towel to remove your makeup!

Usually after I remove my makeup I will just hope in the shower and wash my face with water (please don't cringe or judge) and I call it a day. Anything more and I will break out! I bet your probably wondering if I've tried sensitive skin facial products, my answer, yes. I have tried the cheap products and the expensive products before finally switching back to good ol free- water. Although this is what I do, I highly recommend to YOU that you wash your face with a facial cleanser dedicated to your skin type and that you use a moisturizer for nighttime and daytime (choose one with SPF for daytime) because it really does make a difference on *most* people's skin.

MCO reader Jackie M. submitted a skin care mask recipe when she read that Beauty Week was coming up. She swears by it and says that it leaves her skin baby soft and even helps with an occasional zit. I tried this out a couple of nights ago and I am a believer! It left my skin feeling smooth and refreshed and I was one happy camper! Why does this not irritate my skin? Because its three ingredients and the three ingredients are natural products. All you need is plain Greek yogurt, raw honey, and ground oatmeal. Yes, that's all b

What You Need:

1 Teaspoon of Greek Yogurt PLAIN. DO NOT USE FLAVORED!
1 Teaspoon of Raw Honey
1 Teaspoon of Ground Oatmeal

What You Need To Do:

Start by grinding your oats in a food processor or clean coffee grinder. When they are a thin, powdery texture combine them in a small bowl with your yogurt and honey. Stir it up until it is a creamy consistency. Apply to your face and let it sit for 10-20 minutes (you be the judge) before washing it off. Finish off the mask by applying your normal nightly moisturizer.

How simple is that! Soft beautiful skin is literally available in your fridge/pantry. Thank you Jackie M for submitting that awesome recipe!!

  1. these are both great recipes, thank you! I too do nothing, in terms of washing my face, but I feel it works best for me. I will definitely be trying out these 2 recipes though for when I do use make up and when I do need a good scrub
