Product Review! Balmers Natural Monkey Balm

*I received wall decor for review in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions*

There are hundreds of different lotions and balms out on the market these days for little ones- so how do you know which ones are the best? One that adds moisture to your babies skin and soothes at the same time? For some, trial and error is the best method in finding out what reacts the best to your child's skin. For others, it's all about friendly recommendations and product reviews that steer consumers toward a product of their choice. I am always very cautious when trying out new products, especially when I try them on my son. So far, *knock on wood* we haven't had any issues with product sensitivity but you can never be to careful! I am one of those moms who goes off of recommendations when trying new products and if a product is made organically and with natural products, I tend to gravitate more toward those products.

I've had the opportunity to try out Balmers Natural Monkey Balm and I will admit, at first I wasn't a fan. When I first used it, I didn't like the smell or how it felt on my skin. Although it rolled on smoothly, it felt greasy and tight once it was on. I was quick to pass judgement on it, but I knew that it deserved a fair trial period so I continued to use it. I used it on the same patch of skin on my arm that felt particularly dry over the last week and by today I can say that my dry patch is 10X better. I am pleased to announce that I am now a fan of Monkey Balm and will continue to use it daily!

Monkey Balm comes in an applicator that much resembles a tube of chap stick. You roll the balm up by twisting the bottom portion of the applicator and the top twists on and off, rather than being pulled on and off, which in my opinion is a great method to the balm not drying out. Monkey Balm is a 100% natural roll on balm treatment for dry, itchy skin, whether it be from eczema, diaper rash, or if you just have naturally dry skin. The main ingredient in this balm is Sea Buckhorn which contains bio active nutrients that are made up of vitamins, Omega 7 and other essential fatty acids. Sea Buckhorn has been used for centeries as a treatment for irriated or burned skin. Monkey Balm also contains castor seed oil, cocoa butter, vitamin E, beeswax, jojoba oil, and other natural seed and fruit oils. The balm glides smoothly on your skin leaving behind a layer of balm to moisturize and sooth. After a short amount of time you will find that the balm doesn't feel as greasy or as tight on your skin- this is the visible proof that your skin is absorbing all of the nutrients and locking them.

I really wanted to test this product out on myself, Baby A, and Mr. Hunky, but Mr. Hunky objected and wouldn't let me use him as a test subject. So for myself I tested Monkey Balm out on my arm. I used it in the same place everyday for a week and compared the difference with the arm that I didn't use it on. By the third day I was starting to notice that my skin wasn't as dry as it had been on day one. By the end of the week I could actually feel and see a difference in my arm compared to the other, my skin felt healthier and looked better. (I tried to capture a photo of the difference but my lighting was never quite right.) My next plan is to use Monkey Balm on my legs to see if it helps lock in the moisture on a larger area of skin as well as it did on a small area. Baby A was my next test subject. Unfortunately for this review (thank goodness in reality though!) Baby A did not have a diaper rash during my test period so I couldn't put the Monkey Balm to the true test. A close friend of mine has used Monkey Balm on her daughters little booty during a rash though and she said that it worked wonders in helping to clear it up. For Baby A, my main test was that it did not create a rash. Baby A has very sensitive skin and I've always used very mild products on him and never use anything that I am unfamiliar with. On day one, I tested it out on his foot. When no rash appeared, the next day I tested it on his leg. Still no rash, so I continued onto a small patch of his arm, using the Monkey Balm on the same spot for a few days. I was impressed to see that Baby A's skin was softer and although he does not have visibly dry skin and I apply lotion on him, the Monkey Balm made his little skin more moisturized as well.

Overall:
I recommend Monkey Balm to anyone (big or little) who has dry skin, irritated skin, or itchy skin. Monkey balm will help sooth and moisturize and you will notice a visible difference after just a short time of using it. I love the texture, the packaging, and the "easy to use" concept of the roll on applicator. I'm not a huge fan of the fact that the balm feels greasy to the touch and makes your skin sort of stiff at first, however it is something that only lasts a short time and is easy to over look for the overall benefits of this product. My biggest dissatisfaction with Monkey Balm is the smell, it's something that I still am not use to and do not enjoy. This is a 100% natural product which means that there are no added fragrances, but I am not a fan of how all of the oils smell together. Overall I feel as though this is a great baby product and a great product for parents to use as well!

  1. My husband gets a really dry patch on his had during the winter. It is so hard to get it smooth so maybe this would help him.

  2. Well, I came across this review by accident, but I HAVE to try it out. I have psoriasis and my skin is a hot mess. I have loads of prescription creams, ointments, salves, that do nothing but make the drugstore richer. I have to look this up and try it out. Who cares how it smells, I AM DESPERATE!
