The Ultimate 3rd Birthday Present: Radio Flyer Build A Trike {Review}

*Mommy's Obsessions received a complimentary Build-A-Trike for review in exchange for our honest thoughts and opinions*

Well guys, it happened. My baby turned 3. Can you believe it?! Where did my BABY go? He's a big boy now, growing like a weed, speaking to me in full conversation, sharing his thoughts and opinions. I just can't even fathom the fact that just three short years ago I gave birth to an innocent life that needed me every second of every day. And now? That innocent life is a little more ornery, a little less cuddly, and a lot more independent!

I racked my brain for weeks thinking of what I could get for him this year for his birthday that would be super fun and something he wouldn't play with for five minutes and toss to the side. Mr. Hunky was less than helpful with the idea flow, so I had to think outside of the box. Then it hit me. My little guy needed a trike; and who better to turn to than the trusted brand of Radio Flyer.

About Radio Flyer
(As from their website)

"Just like our original red wagon, the Radio Flyer brand has become an American icon. It began with a classic story of humble beginnings, where Antonio Pasin was in search for a better life, and came to America where he found his calling. Not only did he find a better life for himself, but his dreams put a smile on the face of millions of children across the nation. For 97 years, countless voyages of childhood fantasy have been launched with Radio Flyer toys. Their beauty, simplicity, and standards of safety encourage adventure, discovery, and capture the wonders of youth. Antonio created a legacy of toys that continue to spark the imagination, as Radio Flyer is rediscovered with each new generation. With a solid commitment to creating the best childhood experiences, we are developing tomorrow's innovative toys with the same classic quality, and sense of outdoor, active play that have been our trademarks from the beginning. Radio Flyer is dedicated to delivering smiles and warm memories that last a lifetime, and we are proud to be a timeless symbol of childhood freedom."

Radio Flyer was generous enough to offer me the opportunity to review their Build-a-Trike which sounded like SO much fun! I couldn't wait to customize Little Mister's trike for his birthday!

The Radio Flyer website was extremely easy to navigate when building your trike, from the first step of choosing the base color, to the last step of adding an upgrade for a name plate, you can choose everything from tires to upgrading the basket size, and even adding on speakers! I decided for Little Mister's trike we weren't going to get to "tricked out", but add on a couple additions that would make his trike super fun, and something that his little brother could one day use!

Two nights before Little Mister's birthday party, Mr. Hunky and I sat down to put the trike together with plans of presenting it to him the morning of his birthday party! When Radio Flyer says that it is a "build a trike" they do really mean it; everything was unassembled so be sure to have your tools ready and a little bit of free time! Between the two of us, we had the trike put together in a little over an hour, but it would have gone faster had Mr. Hunky not have made a couple technical errors in assembly that he had to fix. My parts of building the trike (in other words assembling the bell, putting on the harness, and clicking the hood on) was extremely simple and just took a few minutes. When we had the trike put together we were extremely excited and couldn't wait to give it to Little Mister in just a couple of days!

As I mentioned, I love that you can completely customize the Build-a-Trike to how you want it for your little guy or gal. For Little Mister's trike we chose red as the base color, added air tires, a sun canopy, the harness and seat cushion, an upgraded basket, and the bell. Also included as standard on the trike is the push bar so that you can navigate the trike if your little one doesn't know how to peddle on their own!

We decided to hide the trike in Little Boy's nursery and shut the door since Little Mister never went in there unless I went in first. Well, the very next evening Mr. Hunky and I were in the kitchen when I looked over into our living room and saw Little Mister sitting on his trike. He apparently had a kid's intuition on where his present was and decided to investigate. I managed to say "oh no" before I started cracking up at the fact that all day we thought we were so sly but in actuality we were the worst present hiders ever.

Since we couldn't exactly take Little Mister's trike away from him now, we decided to take him outside so that he could have some fun with it! I did disassemble a few pieces of the trike including the push handle, the hood, and the harness. Since Little Mister was turning 3 we decided to keep those extra's for his little brother and just give him more of a "basic trike" to ride. Although he hasn't quite grasped the concept of peddling, he is quickly learning and having a ton of fun while doing so!

I would say without hesitation that the Build-a-Trike from Radio Flyer is the perfect gift for your child whether you're celebrating their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th birthday, or any other holiday! It can also be used with children who are smaller if you build your trike to include the wrap around bar and harness. I love that you can customize the trike to fit the personality of your child whether it be to keep it simple, or to give them all of the bells and whistles! As with all Radio Flyer products, you get a high quality item that will last for years (and through multiple kiddos!), all for a reasonable price point!

To Purchase: Visit Radio Flyer and customize a trike for your little one! Prices range between $75-$215!
