Menu Planning

I have never been one to plan out my meals before the week begins. Ive always been more of a "what sounds good for dinner tonight" kind of girl, deciding what to eat only when it was almost dinner time and I was getting hungry. Well now that Baby A is getting older and more active it is important to keep my days as organized as possible to avoid trying to figure out what to make for dinner while the baby is screaming! Anyone have any of those nights where your kid is screaming, you're hungry and you just can't figure out what to make? It's fun. Hence my reason for deciding to plan my menus. Last night was my trial. Mr hunky and I went through my favorite cook books to figure out what to eat during the week. I made my grocery list of ingredients that I would need (and a few other miscellaneous items). Today I headed to the grocery store and was presently pleased when I got everything I would need plus some and only spent $60! The breakdown on dinner foods for Mr. Hunky and myself for the week is only about $4.50 per meal per person. That's a steal!! I suggest that you start planning out your meals if it's not something that you already do, not only is it fun to sit down with you guy on a Sunday night and look through the cookbooks but it will end up saving you a ton of money if you plan out what you're eating for the week. I got all of my groceries for the week which means I won't be wasting gas going back and forth to the store every couple days and I made sure to stock up on the basic such as carrots, celery, cereal, milk, flour, sugar and more of course so that we have things on hand for breakfast, lunch and snacks!

Tonight we are having home made chicken pot pie. What are you having for dinner?

  1. I
Always plan my meals. In fact I did a post Judy like this one a couple weeks ago :)
It saves money and saves time!
I'm also big on freezing meals on Monday so when a day comes and I have no time, I just pop it in the oven!

Tonight is a new vegetarian pasta I made. My husband will have to deal with no meat being in it hahs.

  2. I also do milk sugar flour etc at Costco. I buy in big bulk so I don't have to go back for baking ingredients until the next MONTH. I love having everything in my house already when it comes to baking.
