As many of you lovely readers already know, Mr. Hunky and I tied the knot a couple weeks ago on April 5 (2014). I guess that makes me Mrs. Hunky now huh?! Weird.
Throughout my days dutifully accepting the title of bride (also known as the woman you must agree with throughout the entire planning process or else risk your throat being ripped out by bridezilla.... whoa, to harsh? I promise I wasn't that bad!) I learned a thing or two about my wedding registry after spending hours upon hours doing what I though was perfecting it. Now that the wedding is over I see the truth - you never really know what you want/need until after your bridal shower and wedding.
What the heck is she talking about? I know what I want/need now. And you may! I know I did when I first started my registry, I had a list of all of the things that were hand-me-downs or cheapies that needed replacing, like, ASAP.
Once my bridal shower had come and gone I was one happy little bride going on a shopping spree at Bed Bath and Beyond and Macys, since those were the two places I had registered at and ended up receiving all of my gift cards to. Not sure where you want to register for yet? Don't worry, there's a post for that! Once I had pretty much purchased everything at Bed Bath and Beyond, and spent more than my fair share at Macys, I was able to get it all home and re-evaluate what we had and what else we still wanted/needed.
Once the wedding was all said and done, I realized not only how fortunate we are, but how many gifts were just not essentials. Sure they were great and we've kept almost everything we've received, but there's a lot that will get used minimally if at all, to be totally honest.
If I had to go back and create a registry of just 20 items, my top choices would be easy. Now I'm sure they won't be the same for all of us as we all eat/sleep/live differently, but in my opinion, these are my must haves.
Oh and P.S.
This list is in no particular order!
20. All of the crystal serving sets you can find. I registered for a bunch of Godinger brand serving sets from Bed Bath and Beyond and I absolutely love all of them! Click here to see the full list of them, or click here, here, or here to check out my top 3 favs. They're super classy for everyday dinner parties or fancier holidays!
19. Your wedding day toasting flutes. Your wedding flutes are something that you'll keep, cherish, and break out on special occasions such as anniversaries. The reason why they made this list is because someone on your bridal shower invitation list is sure to snag them for you, they make such a perfect and beautiful gift! Here's mine!
18. Those expensive pillows you've been
17. Food Storage Containers. I have always wanted glass storage containers for our left overs and I have always just been to cheap to buy them, despite the glass being better for you than the plastic. We got these Pyrex glass storage containers and I am obsessed.
16. All the Pyrex you can register for. Seriously, I don't know about you but I'm a Pyrex freak. Mixing bowls, measuring cups, you name it, I registered for it. Just do it.
15. Coringware. Another similar one to Pyrex but I really love the classic elegance that Corningware brings to the table. Whether you're making roasted potatoes or bread pudding, your presentation will knock your guests (or husband) out of the park just because of the bakeware!
14. A brand spanking new, top of the line Crock Pot. I got a touchscreen one, and I adore it.
13. Fancy smancy wedding picture frames. You'll want something gorgeous to put your professional photos in so register for a few beautiful frames! I can pretty much guarantee that someone on your guest list will prefer to get you a keepsake rather than a kitchen item.
12. Home decor you wouldn't normally buy for yourself. Even something as simple as a serving tray for your ottoman or coffee table - if you love it but probably wouldn't spend the cash, who's to say that it's not the perfect (and affordable) gift for someone to give you on your big day! We registered for a few wall hangings that I loved but wouldn't spring for and I was lucky enough to receive them! Check out my new clock :)
11. Some kitchen essentials. That's right, I'm talking about the hand towels, oven mitts, dish cleaning brushes, and soap dispensers. Technically each individual thing would push the list over 20 BUT they're necessary and make great "stuffers" for someone if they're coming up with a fun little gift basket for you!
10. A Misto. If you do a lot of cooking and use a lot of cooking sprays, not only does a Misto make your meals healthier but it will also save you a ton of money in the long run. You're welcome.
9. [Bath] Towels. Now is the time to register for those pricier bath towels and stop drying yourself off with Walmart cheapies (speaking from experience here). I had always thought "really, it's a towel, how much nicer can it really be?" Holy smokes, what a difference. We registered for enough towels for our bathroom and our guest bathroom, along with hand towels for each and wash cloths. I feel very fortunate to have received all of the towels on our registry because wow, they are amazing!
8. A KitchenAid Mixer and alllllllllll of the attachments. If you like to bake/cook, it will seriously change your life. I was lucky enough to already own a KitchenAid but I registered for most of the attachments/add ons and I love love love them all!
7. A food processor. Now, a food processor was something that I always wanted but wasn't sure I would ever really use. When I received it I honestly let it sit in the corner of our guest room for weeks, trying to decide what to do with it. I wanted it, but we also have a Vitamix (that was our big "we're getting married lets buy this today at Costco" purchase several months ago) so I was conflicted knowing that everything a food processor would do, my Vitamix could too. In the end I said "screw it" and took the food processor out of the box to make a batch of salsa. Oh. My. Goodness. Best decision ever. Now I can't stop thinking of what to make next in my food processor!
6. Basic Bed Linens. I don't know about you but I hate buying new sheets. It's just not an exciting purchase!!! So I registered for them :) I actually didn't receive any of my registered sheets but I was glad that I had them on there as an option!
5. Stemless and regular wine glasses. Even if you're not a wine drinker, there will be times where you're serving wine in your home whether it's for a guest who is a wine drinker or for holidays. They're something that you should have on hand, in my opinion! I also registered for and received champagne flutes but I don't think those would make my top 20 list because really the only time I drink champagne is on New Years Eve.
4. Small Kitchen Appliances. I know this is a vague one but what you already have in your kitchen will depend on what you register for! I personally registered for a new waffle maker, food steamer, coffee pot, coffee grinder, and a few small things!
3. Nice Cutting Boards. I have been drooling over the indexed cutting board sets for years and was so excited to register for a beautiful set from Bed Bath and Beyond. I was even more excited when I received it and I use it pretty much daily! I highly recommend this set!
2. Silverware. Grandparents especially love to buy you your household essentials and silverware makes the top of my list (even though this list isn't in order) because the difference between a cheap set and a quality set is huge. I never thought silverware was a big deal until I got my new set!
1. Everyday China. I didn't bother registering for nice "sit in a cabinet and use it once a year" china because really, who has the space for that?! Instead I registered for a Mikasa 45 Piece Dinnerware Set that is a plain white and can easily be used for everyday and nice occasions. You can feel the quality and it wasn't outrageously priced like normal china can be!

ReplyDeleteMy family doesn't gift couple's anything when they get married. I didn't even know this was a thing normal people did until recently. Ha! Bummer for me.
