Hi. I'm Alex.
I'm the main author of Mommy's Obsessions. Originally Mommy's Obsessions was titled Mommys Craft Obsession, but in 2014 I decided to give the blog a facelift, drop the craft, add an apostrophe in Mommy's, and add the "s" in Obsession. When I started my blog, I had the wholehearted intention of having it be a crafty blog where I shared projects and what not, but then reality kicked in. My son got older, thus needing more hands on play and attention, and the craft projects started dwindling. Before I knew it, the blog was centered around Reviews and Giveaways, and although that is not what I had intended, I was having a ton of fun. The blog became my second baby. I ate, slept, and breathed Mommy's Obsessions and I was so grateful for the opportunities it had opened up.
Before I knew it I was taking care of a toddler, running my blog full time, working from home part time, and planning my wedding. I loved every second of every day, but couldn't help feeling like I was drowning a bit. I needed help, so I brought on Daedra to relieve some of the stress. It helped, but then I got pregnant again! So not only was I doing everything I mentioned above, but I now had my head over the toilet 40 times a day dealing with the glorious pregnancy symptom; morning sickness.
It got to the point last year when I fell out of love with my blog. I had a to do list a mile high and not enough time in the day. Little Mister (my 3 year old) was begging for my attention and instead of giving it to him, I found myself snapping at him and distracting him with the T.V. because I needed to get stuff done. Without even realizing it, my son was not my priority, and when I did realize it, I was furious at myself. Before I knew it, Little Boy (my now 2 1/2 month old) joined our family and life as I knew it changed.
I found that while having two kids instead of one isn't a HUGE change, it's a change and I desperately needed to think long and hard about how I would manage my time with two children, home life, my part time job, and the blog.
I still love the blog and I fully intend on keeping it around for years to come, but life as the blog knows it is about to drastically change. If you are a giveaway "sweeper" and come around purely for the giveaways, this may no longer be the blog for you. If you are addicted to craft projects, DIYs, and recipes with the most vibrant photos you've ever seen, this is not the blog for you. Confession: I am not a Pinterest perfect blogger. I try really really hard, but I can't afford one of those fancy-smancy cameras and I can't work photoshop to save my dang life.
While I can't promise you back to back giveaways, pages chalk full of reviews, new recipe posts every week, or new DIYs all the time, I can promise you that the content that I do post on this blog will be real. I intend on writing more and reviewing less. I plan on trying new recipes and sharing why the sucked instead of only sharing the good ones. Our posts may be a little more few and far between than you're use to from me, but in 2015, I'm making a promise to myself that my kids come first and my blog comes last. I'll be writing strictly at night when my boys are asleep and when I'm not exhausted from the day. Want to know why? Because while writing this post, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I epically burnt a batch of cookies, Little Mister tripped and busted his lip on the Hot Wheel he had in his hand, and Little Boy just spit up all over himself and my arm. I'm a mom, I'm a mess, and while I love all of you fabulous readers, I love my time with my boys, and my sanity a whole lot more.

Good for you!! I look forward to reading your future post. Enjoy your babies while the are still little and want/need you. My oldest is 12 and there are days I feel like I worked to much and didn't spend enough time with him when he was younger. Now he thinks he is grown and I just "annoy" him, lol. Happy New year to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jamie! It's tough balancing but in the end, just like you said, they're only little for so long! Happy New Year to you and your family as well!
DeleteKudos, Alex!! Family always comes first! Do what's best for you and your family, and we will be here to enjoy whatever post you have for us! Looking forward to reading them! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support Anel! It's very appreciated!
DeleteIt's so refreshing to read this! I often wonder how mama bloggers "do it all." But I now realize that sometimes you can't do it all, and that's okay. (And it's very normal!) While I often enjoy pretty pictures, giveaways, and perfect recipes, I enjoy relating to someone even more... and I can only do that if you show me real life. I look forward to reading more. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Keara! A lot of bloggers are really good at doing it all- or at least appearing to do so! I honestly envy those bloggers with the perfect pictures and amazing posts, but over the last few months I've realized that it's just not going to ever be me, and I'm totally fine with that! And im excited to see what 2015 has in store for me and the blog! :) thanks for the continued support!
DeleteThe one thing ,actually a couple of things that have drawn me to your blog is that your REAL.Second is those baby's coming first...that's a must...I'll be sticking around for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie! It means a lot!
DeleteI don't blame you one bit. I will continue to keep up with your blog anyway b/c I have really enjoyed your crafts in the past, and that is my main interest (though I have certainly entered the giveaways, and with no real expectations). You have always seemed the most real & down to earth of all of the bloggers I follow and that makes me relate a lot more to you. So, go spend time with those sweet boys of yours & come back when you have time - we'll be here when you do! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jess! I try to stick to who I am in real life and have that translate to the blog. So glad it's actually showing through :D
DeleteI am still on break these days and my little is 2 ;-)
ReplyDeleteI only find time for one blog post in the morning, and my kids are 8 and 10.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like one smart mama! I will still loyally follow your (life) blog!
